My favorite type of investigation! It looks like Manafort and Kushner might both be facing state crimes.

>Cyrus R. Vance, Jr., the Manhattan district attorney,

Bit of an aside, but how the fuck has this guy not stepped down yet? What a disgrace. Hope Schneiderman is keeping him at arm’s length, because he will sell out the entire case for a few grand.

MarxWasWrong · October 31, 2017 at 11:30 pm

>Over the last several years, the blog noted, limited liability companies linked to Mr. Manafort bought residential properties using cash, only to later take out big loans using the properties as part of the collateral. Initially, the loans came from big banks, but by late 2016, Mr. Manafort turned to the Federal Savings Bank in Chicago.

>In November, the Chicago bank provided a $9.5 million loan to Summerbreeze LLC, a shell company tied to Mr. Manafort, using a home in the Hamptons as collateral, The Times previously reported. Two months later, the bank provided another two mortgages, totaling about $6.5 million, for a brownstone that Mr. Manafort owns in the Carroll Gardens neighborhood of Brooklyn.

>**These were no small loans for Federal Savings, which typically focuses on affordable mortgages for military veterans. Mr. Manafort’s loans amounted to about 5.4 percent of the bank’s total assets**, according to public reports.

Follow the money.

During the Enron investigation didn’t Mueller prosecute them in New York exactly so they wouldn’t be pardoned?

Terry_Flappers · October 31, 2017 at 11:30 pm

This is just a case of States Rights! Right Trumpists?

thegreatsquare · October 31, 2017 at 11:30 pm

I’d love to see them all sent to Rikers.

Ofbearsandmen · October 31, 2017 at 11:30 pm

Mueller knows exactly what he’s doing.

Mr_Sharkey · October 31, 2017 at 11:30 pm

So how does that work? Do you serve your federal time, and then your state time? Or do you serve them both together?

cooneyes · October 31, 2017 at 11:30 pm

Hence Donnie Moscow’s helpless cry: “DO SOMETHING!”

red-moon · October 31, 2017 at 11:30 pm

>In July, President Trump wrote on Twitter that “all agree the U.S. President has the complete power to pardon.”

It’s like watching a childhood game of ‘cowboys and indians’ where one kid gets pretend shot, then says ‘my badge stopped the bullet’, followed by the kid pretend shooting him saying ‘nuh-uh did not – got you!’ followed by ‘we all agree my badge completely stopped the bullet’…

kooycat · October 31, 2017 at 11:30 pm

Trump… can’t pardon himself… when his sorry ass is no longer president. scurry varmit. It won’t help you none.

🎶 just another manafort mondayyy ohhhweeohhh 🎶

LiquidMotion · October 31, 2017 at 11:30 pm

I’m fairly certain Mueller set it up this way on purpose. He’ll get all the dirt, indict for federal crimes, wait for the pardon, use it as admission of guilt for the state crimes. These guys are fucked.

Acceptor_99 · October 31, 2017 at 11:30 pm

Apparently as little as $10,000 to Vance’s campaign is all it takes for a case to disappear.

IsThereSomethingNew · October 31, 2017 at 11:30 pm

How long until Trump tries to sign an EO that allows him to pardon state crimes? Any betters?

Edit: Yes I know he cant legally do this but that hasn’t stopped him in the past from trying. He has been treating EOs for months as his personal “I can do whatever I want.”

el_vper · October 31, 2017 at 11:30 pm

I also wonder if Mueller purposely held back some charges against Manafort. Correct me if I’m wrong, but if Trump were to pardon Manafort for the charges he’s facing, Mueller would still be able to charge Manafort again on unrelated charges. (or am I mistaken?)

okolebot · October 31, 2017 at 11:30 pm

That should be good for a few sweet **ALL CAPS** tweets. 🙂

This is the best tl;dr I could make, [original](https://www.nytimes.com/2017/10/30/business/trump-manafort-pardon-new-york-state-vance.html) reduced by 92%. (I’m a bot)

> The New York investigations focus in part on Mr. Manafort's relationship with the Federal Savings Bank of Chicago, a small lender that provided him some big loans.

> In examining the loan documents, Mr. Vance's office is seeking to determine whether Mr. Manafort used the loan money for an unauthorized purpose, which could amount to filing a false business record, a crime in New York State.

> The New York prosecutors are also seeking to trace cash that Mr. Manafort moved in and out of American bank accounts, partly to verify whether he paid state taxes on income earned overseas, the people said.

What about Papadopoulus? Not that he’d likely __want__ to…

Bceverly · October 31, 2017 at 11:30 pm

Quick. Somebody make a “donation” to Cyrus Vance so we can get him to support this.

mistuhphipps · October 31, 2017 at 11:30 pm

lol owned

Derperlicious · October 31, 2017 at 11:30 pm

I expect them to try to use federal supremacy, even though i doubt the courts will agree.
