The off-season is not going so well for Bruce Maxwell, the only Major League Baseball player to kneel for the national anthem during the 2017 regular season. He has been arrested on aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and disorderly conduct charges.
The Oakland Athletics catcher, who knelt during the national anthem prior to the start of a game against the Texas Rangers on Sept. 23, 2017, in Oakland, Calif., allegedly pointed a gun at a female food delivery person in Scottsdale, Ariz.

Maxwell was charged and held in custody pending an initial hearing in the case.
Last week, Maxwell claimed that he was refused service at a restaurant in his hometown of Huntsville, Ala., because of his anthem protest.
“I wasn’t even home four hours, and I got denied service at lunch with our city councilman, who’s also an African-American guy who I went to high school with, because the dude recognized me as the guy who took a knee and he voted for Trump and was at that Trump rally in Huntsville, Alabama,” Maxwell told TMZ Sports in a video posted on Tuesday.
In the video, Maxwell recounted the alleged conversation between him and the waiter.
“He was like, ‘Oh yeah. You’re that guy, huh?’ I was like, ‘Excuse me?’ He was like, ‘You’re the guy who took the knee,’” Maxwell said.
Maxwell claimed that the waiter said, “I voted for Trump. And I stand for everything he stands for.”
According to Maxwell, the councilman “went and got their manager and had some words with him and took him off of our table and put us another person on our table.”
But Anne Whalen, a manager at Keegan’s Public House in Huntsville, told Fox News that the incident as recounted by Maxwell did not occur, even though it garnered national headlines.
Whalen confirmed that a dispute did take place with Maxwell’s party, but it had nothing to do with Maxwell’s kneeling during the national anthem or the waiter’s support of President Donald Trump.
Whalen said that in Maxwell’s party of three, he was the only one who produced a valid ID. Therefore he was the only one who was served beer at the restaurant.
“(Waiter) Matt (Henry) came to me and told me that a guy wanted a beer, but his ID was not valid,” Whalen said, “and I told him he absolutely could not give it to him. We can go to jail for that in the state of Alabama.”
Walen said, “It was his friend causing all the fuss. None of us even knew who this baseball player was. I told him I had no idea who he was going on about. Eventually, Matt just asked if we could put another server on the table, so I did.”
Henry told Fox News that Maxwell was “outright lying,” about what happened.
“I didn’t even know who Bruce Maxwell was,” Henry said.
Maxwell, 26, who said he has developed a new friendship with Colin Kaepernick “who’s sort of mentoring him now,” hit .237 with three home runs and 22 RBIs in 76 games in the 2017 season. He was slated to be Oakland’s starting catcher next year.
