TRUMPS STEEL TARIFFS WILL COST 400,000 AMERICAN JOBS, A NEW ESTIMATE SAYS: June 05, 2018
After Donald Trump announced tariffs on steel and aluminum from the US’s closest allies last week, economists warned that they could result in thousands of US job losses. The latest numbers from The Trade Partnership, a DC-based economics research firm, suggests that the impact will be even worse than originally estimated.
Some 400,000 jobs will be lost, with 16 losses for every job created by the tariffs, the group said today. That’s more than three times the number of job losses it expected earlier.
As Quartz has explained, it’s true that steel producers in the US may see a slight rise in jobs due to tariffs. However, the (much larger) industries that depend on imported steel will suffer, like automakers, construction groups and even financial services. Just over 400,000 people in the US work in metal-producing jobs, economist Jed Kolko wrote in March, but 4.6 million work in jobs that depend on metal.
Employers in industries that use metal will have to pay more for raw materials, charge more for products, and could trim or move jobs. “Steel consuming industries face annual employment declines of 97,614 in each of the first one to three years the tariffs, quotas and retaliation are in place,”
the Trade Partnership says.

ASK THESE PEOPLE THAT WILL LOSE THEIR JOBS IF THEY STILL BELIEVE THEY ARE PART OF DONALD J. TRUMP’S ‘WINNING‘?

COMPANIES WARN MORE CHINA TARIFFS WILL CRIPPLE THEM AND HURT CONSUMERS:

WASHINGTON Aug. 20, 2018
— As the United States and China prepare to resume fractious trade talks this week, executives from American companies flocked to Washington on Monday to warn the Trump administration that imposing tariffs on an additional $200 billion worth of Chinese goods would CRIPPLE THEIR BUSINESSES AND RAISE PRICES ON EVERYTHING FROM BICYCLES TO CAR SEATS TO REFRIGERATORS.

HERE’S HOW MANY JOBS AMERICA COULD LOSE BECAUSE OF THE TRUMP TARIFFS:

How many American jobs could the Trump tariffs destroy? It’s hard to answer that definitively, in part because some companies say that they’re planning on creating jobs because of the Trump tariffs at the same time others are announcing job cuts for the same reasons.
Still other companies won’t necessarily explain exactly why they will make their decisions in terms of layoffs or new hires. The new tariffs may be one factor among many.
Still, analysts say that TENS OF THOUSANDS OF AMERICAN WORKERS ARE LIKELY TO LOSE THEIR JOBS — AND UPWARD OF TWO MILLION JOBS ARE AT RISK:
—more or less as a direct consequence of the Trump administration’s trade policies, and the retaliatory tariffs that follow.

NEW STUDY SHOWS TRUMPS MASSIVE TARIFFS WILL HURT THE ECONOMY AND COST 79,000 U.S. JOBS:

President Donald Trump said his new tariffs on China and metals would boost the US economy.

A study by the Tax Foundation found the tariffs will actually hurt the US economy and cost Americans jobs.

The study also found that low- and middle-income Americans would pay the highest costs from the tariffs.

I want to come there…

Eventually NAFTA will give way to TPP and guess who killed the goose?

A Florida Son · September 7, 2018 at 8:14 pm

Our deficit needs to be a part of this discussion. Under Trump's big money making schemes, some Americans may think they are saving up for a vacation, but Trump's inability to understand how business works, is going to cause our deficit get so huge, that our economy will crumble under it's weight. That vacation will be put to the side, and survival instincts will take over. If unchecked, eventually we'll be selling spare change to scrap yards, because it will nothing more than scrap metal.

Seriously, would you give the control for all of your family's money for food, shelter, clothing and everything else to a vengeful 4 year old. He's likely to throw it in the air, in the river or in the street. He will not have enough respect for you and your responsibilities to behave in a responsible manner himself. He has no vested interest in making sure that you get what you need. He's indifferent to the real consequences if a local company pulls up stakes and moves to another country. If anyone dares to say something about it, he verbally attacks them as "liars". Now, you wouldn't dream of putting this little person behind the wheel of a luxury automobile, but you have no difficulty putting his equivalent in the driver's seat and driving one of the largest nations on earth. Are you nuts?

We now see that today’s ‘Republican’ party is less concerned about ‘The Republic’ and ‘individual sovereignty’ than corporate lobbying, lies coverups deceits, and fascist ideologies.

Chris Garcia · September 8, 2018 at 12:39 am

Companies have been laying off at alarmingly high rates due to these tarrifs. How could they possibly have August numbere one week into September let alone have them captured accurately.

Also if the President thought unemployment was really 40% when it was 4.9% under the last guy, I will never trust or believe that it's 3.9% now.

Lastly, does wage growth include executive compensation? Everything I'm seeing says that's the only thing showing real growth and not employee wages. With inflation at 2.9% and gas prices higher than, it is really hard to see this booming economy they keep talking about.

dio gutz · September 8, 2018 at 9:51 am

Why do they talk about the underemployded?
