Last year, Facebook announced that it would partner with The Weekly Standard, a conservative magazine, to “fact check” news articles that are shared on Facebook. At the time, ThinkProgress expressed alarm at this decision.

The Weekly Standard has a history of placing right-wing ideology before accurate reporting. Among other things, it labeled the Iraq War “A War to Be Proud Of” in 2005, and it ran an article in 2017 labeling climate science “Dadaist Science,” and promoted that article with the phrase “look under the hood on climate change ‘science’ and what you see isn’t pretty.”

Rules that could change with the wind or from Democrat to Republican is what would have happened. We already have the government doing that just in a louder way but basically the same thing . The only way t9 have done this was to pass a law saying this is part of the public square and therefore bound by the same laws period.

Who Pooped In The Pudding? · September 14, 2018 at 8:49 pm

The world became a dystopian downward spiral with the creation of the Federal Reserve folks. Hoi oi oi! Been a long time coming.

Also, an objective fact checker is a fallacy. The objectivity is achieved through having multiple sources checking the same facts and sharing the results.

Chocolate Kyle kulinski · September 14, 2018 at 8:49 pm

You called it Kyle

Jo Be · September 14, 2018 at 8:49 pm

Can we Nuke San Francisco?

Ocek · September 14, 2018 at 8:50 pm

Fact checkers generally fall along the line of the fact checker's own biases and prejudices, rather than creating factually correct content. If people want to know an article is true, they will go to someone they trust and ask about it, or decide on their own.

Proxel · September 14, 2018 at 8:50 pm

This is a Black Mirror episode right?

Steven Nguyen · September 14, 2018 at 8:52 pm

Democrats think snopes is a reliable news source lol

yellingatcows · September 14, 2018 at 8:53 pm

my god i knew they were just playing the victim. honestly how low right wingers will go sometimes still blows my mind

killercaos123 · September 14, 2018 at 8:53 pm

But the "regressive left" are a bigger problem….. lol

duhsmersh · September 14, 2018 at 8:54 pm

"OF COURSEEEEEEE"

Michin Sin · September 14, 2018 at 8:54 pm

I love Kyle's idea here. "Questionable content", might add counter arguments in the search results.
Truly scary times we live in.

DonC876 · September 14, 2018 at 9:05 pm

I think they should put up a requirement, to list sources for every claim made AND have objective fact checkers.

Sketchy Fella · September 14, 2018 at 9:06 pm

It's old people. There's a reason they're targeted by and most often fall for scams. Not everyone has the ability to smell bullshit, Kyle. And when you get to the point where large swaths of the population are falling for stupid bullshit scams so hard it actually begins to affect the way they vote, and thus the way the rest of us have to live our lives, it becomes a time for action. I agree with you about these "fact" checkers bias toward the middle, but when you go on to say that calling out bullshit keeps people from viewing the stories and that is a form of censorship, that's just plain goddamn stupid. People freely choosing to ignore bullshit propaganda isn't censorship. It's giving them the tools to make an informed decision. The way a proper democracy should work.

nature freak · September 14, 2018 at 9:06 pm

The solution is having neither left or right wing organizations do fact checking. As a culture, we desperatly need non partisan, non agenda driven news organizations to do unbiased fact checking. Sadly, such news organizations almost don't exist anymore. Eveyone is partisan now, everyone has an axe to grind. The enlightenment is dead.

Chris Refino · September 14, 2018 at 9:07 pm

Forcing neutrality creates bias in favor of the most brazen liar.

Adam Garcia · September 14, 2018 at 9:08 pm

This country is a fucking rollercoaster for the populist left, always twists and turns and disappointment and setbacks, one step forward and 3 steps back. Smh

Czolgosz, Workin' Man · September 14, 2018 at 9:09 pm

I'm laughing my ass off. The fact that this is happening to one of John Podesta's and Neera Tanden's pet sites is so, so satisfying.

SFx · September 14, 2018 at 9:09 pm

It's a fact, we're all fuct.

Steve Davis · September 14, 2018 at 9:09 pm

Kyle, I'd love to see a conversation between you and Cenk on this topic. He seems to brush this criticism under the rug, focusing instead on how terrible Alex Jones is.

Rebecca H · September 14, 2018 at 9:10 pm

Rip Facebook

Angus Trout · September 14, 2018 at 9:11 pm

So basically everything other than neutral opinions are to be censored. Might as well just kill the Internet and move back into caves.

BonfireJoe · September 14, 2018 at 9:14 pm

I love how people still think the truth always lies somewhere in the middle. You have to be a special retard to think that conservatives add any value to a discussion

Ben Denis · September 14, 2018 at 9:14 pm

Hey kyle have you heard of artillery only?

Bytefiend · September 14, 2018 at 9:15 pm

Neutrality gives you flat earthers and pyramid earthers on equal footing with NASA. Reality be damned!

Michael Coville · September 14, 2018 at 9:16 pm

As if far too many Americans aren't already completely misinformed with heads full of Fox's propaganda.

Saskeru the Ultimate · September 14, 2018 at 9:19 pm

0:53 Ben Shapiro/Steven Crowder/Sargon of Akkad: You see? Even he admits neutrality is bogus. So why do we need net neutrality?

Gurvinder Parmar · September 14, 2018 at 9:21 pm

If Kavenaugh didn't vote against Roe v Wave, it's disingenuous to label him as anti choice…he repeatedly said he would follow the decisions of the Supreme Court as a precedent…will he abide by it? We don't know…you can't label him as something that's not true, which Think Progress did…I agree on the "fact checking" though.

Philippe Peltier · September 14, 2018 at 9:22 pm

Yes Kyle… but don't forget money is neutral !!!

Crystal Lights · September 14, 2018 at 9:23 pm

Oh sorry I misunderstood

Shny Fan · September 14, 2018 at 9:23 pm

"Facebook, brought to you by The Department of Transitioning the Society Back to The Dark Age".

Louis Anthes · September 14, 2018 at 9:24 pm

Objectivity is NOT neutrality!

Crystal Lights · September 14, 2018 at 9:26 pm

This censorship is in beginning stages it will get better …I hope calm down… my opinion is this is needed you'd have to be living under a rock to not see how much false information was a part in the last election

Ian Standley · September 14, 2018 at 9:26 pm

. . . – – – . . . old school communication, I mean who still talks to people in person the safety of the screen ! So what happened to "facts over feelings" or is that just alternative facts, anyway everybody knows that "facts are stubborn things" and "truth has a liberal bias"

thereddestbull · September 14, 2018 at 9:29 pm

to have bullshit labelled as bullshit helps people recognize bullshit is what you meant to say, kyle

Louis Anthes · September 14, 2018 at 9:29 pm

Neutrality creates hegemony.

Sabir Zain · September 14, 2018 at 9:29 pm

Bootlickers will find a way to defend this

bladudemovies · September 14, 2018 at 9:30 pm

Reality has a well known liberal bias.

Serpent Seven · September 14, 2018 at 9:32 pm

Let's make it fair and everybody "fact checks" themselves . . .

Luminosity · September 14, 2018 at 9:34 pm

Kyle said this was going to happen.

rhonda sampson · September 14, 2018 at 9:34 pm

I hope they can stop this if we win in november !.

Gord Orvis · September 14, 2018 at 9:36 pm

Think Progress does top notch reporting, and expose a lot of corporate bullshit. They probably make lots of enemies.

iGBk · September 14, 2018 at 9:36 pm

Good. I'd rather nobody be censored, but if it's gotta be done progressives sure as shit had it coming.
